Black Bean and Corn Salsa + Our July Schedule

Happy Almost July 4th, Y’all! 

This holiday screams summer to me. I can’t wait to celebrate with fireworks, pool time, and lots of watermelon. I hope you enjoy every bit of your holiday weekend as well!

Before I get to our yummy salsa recipe, I’d like to share our July class schedule.  We are very excited to be teaching so many classes this month!  We will teach you how to create yummy, healthy recipes while stretching your food dollars. We hope to see you there!

OUR JULY SCHEDULE

Daytime Food $ense:

Join Food $ense this month for Pantry Pile Up. This class will focus on how to have a well-stocked kitchen. Using items already on hand makes it easy to create meals from scratch. You’ll be amazed how simple it can be to create a soup or casserole from common pantry items. Our daytime class will be held on Thursday, July 31, from 11:00am-12:30pm.  Class will be held in the multi-purpose room next to the Cache County Extension office, 179 North Main, Logan Suite 111.  Call and reserve your spot today!  435-752-6263.  Out of respect for the hearing impaired, no children please.

Nighttime Food $ense:

Join Food $ense this month for Pantry Pile Up. This class will focus on how to have a well-stocked kitchen. Using items already on hand makes it easy to create meals from scratch. Our nighttime class will be held on Tuesday, July 15th, from 7:00am-8:30pm.  Class will be held in the multi-purpose room next to the Cache County Extension office, 179 North Main, Logan Suite 111.  Call and reserve your spot today!  435-752-6263.  Out of respect for the hearing impaired, no children please.

Mommy & Me:

This class was created for all you busy moms and dads out there who could benefit from bringing the kids to class with you.  Parents will learn great nutrition info and how to create easy, inexpensive, and tasty meals for their families.  The kids will participate in a nutrition activity and get to make a recipe for their parents to try.

You’ll be amazed how simple it can be to create a soup or casserole from common pantry items. Our Mommy & Me class will be held on Thursday, July 17th, from 11:00am- 12:30pm. Class will be held in the multi-purpose room next to the Cache County Extension office, 179 North Main, Logan Suite 111.  Call and reserve your spot today!  435-752-6263.  Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.  Class size is limited so register early!  Kids of all ages are welcome.

Evening with Extension:

USU Extension in Cache County will be teaching Bottling Tomatoes and Salsa 101 this month! This class will be held on Thursday, July 10th, from 7:00pm-9:00pm in the Cache County Administration Building Multipurpose Room at 179 North Main, Logan.  Recipes will be demonstrated and tasted by participants.  The class is $3.00 or $2.00 if you register 24 hours in advance.  To reserve your spot, phone 752-6263 or come to the USU Extension Office at 179 North Main, Logan.

Food $ense at the Cache Valley Gardeners’ Market:

Food $ense will be at the Cache Valley Gardeners’ Market every Saturday this month. We will be handing out yummy samples using produce from local farmers. Be sure to stop by for some good fun and great produce! Look for Food $ense on the WEST side of the pavilion. We would love to see you!
